Mandate Ministry - Redeeming the LandMandate Ministry Home Mandate Ministry Recent Posts The Curse Goes On Original Curse Recent Comments Archives January 2016 October 2015 Categories The Curse The Curse Goes On Published January 12, 2016 | By TCB Adam and Eve brought a curse upon themselves and creation as a result of their rebellion and disobedience. Because of their sin their spirit “died” and they became disconnected from God. No longer was their focus outward. Rather their focus turned inward to a self-centered life bent on self-preservation. They were now “gods” so it was up to them to make their way in the world. Their souls took over the decision making process vacated by their spirits. With their souls in full control self sat on the throne. What they didn’t fully realize was that they had become slaves to satan. They were now subject to his control all the while believing themselves to be free to make their own choices. There are four basic categories of sin that defile the land. They are idolatry, covenant breaking, shedding of innocent blood, and sexual immorality. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God they broke their covenant relationship with Him. Marriage is a covenant relationship, and is a type of Christ and the Church, His Bride. During the ceremony the couple vows to keep covenant until, “death do us part.” God told Adam if he ate of the fruit of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil he would surely die. Adam did eat and his spiritual death resulted in breaking covenant with God. Adam lost his ability to see in spirit. Since God is Spirit, Adam was no longer able to commune with God in the Garden. God created us to be worshipers. I believe we worship that which we think supplies us with life. If that is true, then idolatry can be defined as trusting anything but God for our source of supply. Adam fell into idolatry when he believed the lie that he was sufficient in himself to meet his needs. We still see this today with religious humanism; the exaltation of man as his own god supplying his own needs. Because of these two sins, God cursed the ground. As a result Adam had to work hard to make the ground produce fruit. I believe this was a constant reminder to him that his own strength was insufficient to provide all his needs. Adam needed someone greater than himself to cause the rain to fall in its season and cause the ground to produce fruit. Worship then became a means of placating or buying favors from God so He would bless man’s efforts. Rather than worship God for who He was, men worshiped for what they could get from God. Later on men turned to the worship of other gods in hopes of gaining favor with the god and power over their enemies. We move on to Genesis Chapter 4 where we see the first indications of religion in action. Able offers up a blood sacrifice which is pleasing to God. I believe it was Abel’s heart attitude that was most pleasing to God. Abel took the time to know God and understand that God deserved the first and the best of his labor. On the other hand, while Cain kept the letter of the law by giving God an offering it was given as a token and an afterthought. God isn’t looking for our works, but our heart. When Cain’s offering was rejected he felt personally rejected by God. He became jealous and angry. Since he couldn’t attack God directly he attacked God’s chosen. This is how satan has worked through people to get back at God to this very day. This shedding of an innocent human life caused God to curse the ground once again. Speaking to Cain God said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground. Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth.” (Genesis 4:10-12) The ground was first cursed by Adam’s sin so that it would yield thorns and thistles. Now it was doubly cursed so that nothing would grow as a result of Cain’s efforts. Remember, Cain was a farmer. His sacrifice was that of grain. Now his livelihood was taken away and he was forced to wander the earth. That is the life of an orphan; one who has no place to call home. An orphan lifestyle is common today even in the church. Though they have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus and adopted into the family of God, for many Christians past wounds keep them from feeling like they really belong. Shame and fear prevent orphans from receiving the love and forgiveness available through the cross. As a result they do not appropriate their inheritance which includes freedom from the curse of the law. Posted in The Curse Original Curse Published October 24, 2015 | By TCB When Adam switched allegiance to satan by obeying him rather than God, sin (rebellion) entered the world. Paul explained to the Roman believers, “Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?” Romans 6:16 (NASB) Adam presented himself to satan as a slave by obeying him. In so doing Adam relinquished his authority and power to have dominion over creation and turned it over to satan. Thus satan became “god of this world.” (See Matt 4:8-10, John 12:31, John 14:30, 2 Co 4:4) Adam and Eve become self-centered rather than God-centered. They suddenly realized they had lost their covering and were naked. The shame of their nakedness caused them to fear exposure. They immediately tried to control the situation by covering up their shame with fig leaves (which are very prickly). Then they attempted to hide themselves in the bushes. When God showed up He immediately exposed the true reality of the situation, by asking Adam a question, “Adam, where are you?” When Adam came to the realization of where he really was, separated from God, instead of acknowledging and repenting he began the process of blame-shifting. All of this is important because this is standard procedure in the human race. Every person who has walked the face of the earth, except Jesus, has come from Adam’s corrupted DNA. Shame, fear, control and blame-shifting are standard ways unredeemed mankind deals with sin. In His justice and mercy God could not leave man in the garden to defile it. God was forced to remove Adam and Eve from the garden just as He was forced to remove satan and his rebellious angels from heaven. Yet in His mercy God replaced man’s inadequate covering with animal skins. This was the first act of shedding innocent blood for the remission of sins, and portended God’s plan for redemption. Because of rebellion God pronounced curses on all who were involved. Because of Adam’s sin God cursed the land, making it difficult for Adam to eke out a living. This principle has followed mankind ever since. Whenever man sins the land becomes defiled and God must curse it.... Whois
